And the winner of this week's "Just Shut Up" award goes to...
Jimmie Johnson; 5 time Nascar Sprint Cup Champion
Seattle Seahawks wide received Golden Tate (yes...that's his real name) was upset at the fact that NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson was included as a nominee at the Espy's in the Male Athlete of the Year category.
Tate was so enraged that he decided to take to his Twitter account to voice his displeasure. The following are a few of his "tweets"...
-Jimmy johnson up for best athlete???? Um nooo .. Driving a car does not show athleticism
Golden Tate...he went to Notre Dame
-Guarantee he couldn't in million year play any SPORT
-I've driven a car on unknown roads at night at 90mph no big deal.
No sign of athletism
-give me 6 months of training and I bet I could compete
Later on, he decided to apologize for his comments by tweeting this...
-Apologies for my offensive comment to NASCAR fans. I actually read up on it and NO I couldn't race a car 150 mph
I am not a NASCAR fan by any means, but there is no way that I would ever label them as not athletes. They have to keep themselves in tip top shape and their minds sharp just like any other athlete does.
Golden Tate just needs to stop worrying about who's up for an award and start worrying about his on the field performance. This past season (his first in the NFL) he amassed 21 catches for a whopping 227 yards. That puts him 179th in the NFL amongst all receivers.
I don't think that anyone has to worry about Golden Tate being nominated for Male Athlete of the Year.
